Chardham Yatra Route & Temples
1. Yamunotri Dham – The Origin of River Yamuna
The first stop of the Chardham Yatra, Yamunotri, is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. Pilgrims take a trek from Janki Chatti (6 km) to reach the temple, where they can take a holy dip in the Surya Kund hot spring and offer prayers at the Divya Shila before entering the shrine.
2. Gangotri Dham – The Origin of River Ganga
The Gangotri Temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, who is worshipped as the divine river of purity. The temple, located at an altitude of 3,100 meters, marks the place where Goddess Ganga descended from heaven. Pilgrims visit the Bhagirath Shila and perform rituals at the Ganges River.
3. Kedarnath Dham – The Abode of Lord Shiva
One of the twelve Jyotirlingas, Kedarnath Temple is situated at 3,583 meters in the lap of the Himalayas. Pilgrims can reach Kedarnath by trekking 16 km from Gaurikund or opting for a helicopter ride. The temple, built by the Pandavas, is revered as one of the holiest Shiva shrines.
4. Badrinath Dham – The Abode of Lord Vishnu
Badrinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is the final stop of the yatra. Situated at 3,133 meters, it is believed to be the place where Lord Vishnu meditated. Pilgrims take a dip in the Tapt Kund, visit Narad Kund, Brahma Kapal, and Charan Paduka, and seek blessings from Badrinarayan Ji.
Best Time for Chardham Yatra
The Chardham Yatra is open from May to October, with the best months being May to June and September to October. The winter months bring heavy snowfall, leading to temple closures.

- By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun). Helicopter services are available from Dehradun.
- By Train: The nearest railway stations are Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun.
- By Road: Well-connected roads lead to the Chardham circuit via Haridwar and Rishikesh.
